What makes San Francisco so different and special than other cities?

have lived in San Francisco so long that i have took it for granted and dont understand what makes it so special Why should i consider myslelf lucky to have lived in San Francisco for so long?

2. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN 415 SAN FRANCISCO!!! i love it.. i live in nyc now. but i will never forget sf. i loved the beach, the pier in the summer, all the clubs, the restaurants, the castro on halloween, gay pride, the shopping, haight street boutiques. it is just all around fun
3. it's a diverse place to live just like any other city in the world. i would also say that there are very many spiritual people that live there. i love san fran when i go there i feel like i'm at home for some reason. i think it's just the spirit.

5. San Francisco does not only pass a lot of major laws for itself, but it is also the most liberal and democratic city in America. That's why its so different. Your luck in living there for a while is depended on how you feel about liberalism versus conservatism.
6. well, people may like the lively population and shopping, all the piers, the smell of the ocean, the california sunshine, the city buzz, and some may like that the city is highly liberal too, but i'm not sure if that appeals to you or not
7. It always seems to be at the cutting edge of technology and social nuances. Beautiful hilly city on the ocean. Very wealthy. Near some very unique climates that allow rare vegetation to grow (napa, red woods, great produce).
