San Francisco?
What can I do with my family around San FRancisco at Christmas time? It's our second trip there, so we've done all the touristy things - Alcatraz, Napa, Golden Gate, Bay, Lombard Street, China Town etc. We would like to do something different. We'll be hiring a car so driving a bit of a distance won't be too bad although we will have to return to SF. I have 2 teenagers and a 7 year old, so activities would have to suit everyone.

- There's not much to do in SF. You can drive to Los Angeles, visit Disneyland, Knotsberry Farm and Universal Studios.
- Go outside the City - visit Muir Woods, Point Reyes, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions. It may rain in December, but you are just as likely to catch some nice though cool days and these places are as wonderful in winter as other times of year. If the weather is rainy, the museums in Golden Gate Park if you have not been are wonderful, as is the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). One of my favorite SF museums is the Legion of Honor not far from Golden Gate Bridge.
- Why not go inland to Yosemite?
- The Safari West wildlife preserve in Sonoma offers guided drives through their 400 acre park. It's a bit like the San Diego Wild Animal Park. If you're been there, it's probably nothing new. If you haven't though, it might be very interesting to see the animals in a natural environment. http://www.safariwest.com/adventures/ ------------- Two of the local theme parks are open for the holidays. Both have rides for the kids. For adults, Six Flags has animal shows and Santa Cruz has the beach. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is open from December 15-January 6 (except the 24th and 25th). Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open from December 26-January 1. http://www.sixflags.com/discoveryKingdom/index.aspx http://www.beachboardwalk.com/
